Day 16 – Chickens and a Creamy Salad Dressing
8 Feb
When I’m not eating a completely raw diet, I choose to eat vegan. Meat is not healthy (as you’ll learn in the next few days), and chicken is ranked (by Men’s Health magazine) as the #1 food you should never eat due to its high rate of bacterial contamination.
More than 99 percent of chickens for human consumption are contaminated with E. coli bacteria by the time they arrive at grocery stores because of the filthy conditions where they are raised, according to a report by the USDA.
Chickens raised for their flesh are bred and drugged to grow extremely large, and arsenic is used in their feed because it promotes growth. This cancer causing chemical is then ingested by humans who eat chicken. Chickens grow to such abnormal sizes that their legs become crippled and they suffer from organ failure. Chickens in factory farms also typically suffer from weakened immune systems, bronchitis, and other respiratory diseases.
When chickens are 6 weeks old, they are shipped on the back of trucks to slaughterhouses where they are violently hung upside-down by their legs and slit at the throat. Their feathers are loosened by dragging them through scalding-hot water, while many are still conscious. Machines then beat the remaining feathers off them. You get the idea, it’s not pretty.
Get informed about the foods you consume. Know where they come from and the effect they have on your body. Only then will you have control over how you fuel yourself.
Today I made a quick and filling creamy salad dressing. It is full of healthy fats and proteins to satisfy your hungry belly.
Creamy Basil and Lime Salad Dressing
1/2 cup almonds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 clove garlic
1 Tbsp fresh ginger
1/4 cup fresh basil
1 lime, juiced
1/2 cup water
- Process almonds and seeds in food processor until broken down.
- Add remaining ingredients, except for water, and continue processing 2-3 minutes scraping sides as necessary.
- Slowly add water while processor is running until desired consistency is reached.
- Serve on a bed of lettuce and your favorite chopped fresh veggies.
